ChatGPT Student Discount and Other AI Offers: What You Get in Your Country
Many of the guides we found are written for U.S. students. On Oct 12, 2026 we read the student offer pages of eight AI providers, in several country versions where they exist, and took dated screenshots. The result: one country table in local currency and a calculator that shows what you pay until your deadline.

Yes, but only for students at U.S. schools: they get four free months of ChatGPT Plus if they claim by Oct 31, 2026; then it costs $20 a month. OpenAI’s help center shows no ChatGPT Plus offer for schools in other countries, though students in the US and Canada can claim $100 in Codex credits. Google’s offer reaches far more countries: 12 free months of Gemini (AI Pro in the US, AI Plus in over 140 markets, not in Canada), and Perplexity, Microsoft, GitHub and Mistral have student prices too. For the thesis itself, StudyTexter is a one-time payment from $79, with steps 1 to 5 free.
ChatGPT for students and other AI offers by country (Oct 12, 2026)
Readers of this page come from all over the world, and the student offers of OpenAI, Google and Microsoft depend on where your college or university is. Here is what their own country pages said on Oct 12, 2026, starting with ChatGPT:
| Where you study | ChatGPT for students |
|---|---|
| United States | 4 months of Plus free if you claim by Oct 31, 2026, then $20/month[1]; plus $100 in Codex credits[3] |
| Canada | no Plus offer; $100 in Codex credits if you study at a Canadian university and live in Canada[3] |
| UK, Australia, India, Philippines, EU | no ChatGPT student offer in OpenAI’s help center[1]; ChatGPT Edu only if your university buys it[2] |
Google gives one paid plan free for 12 months, but which plan and the price after it change by country:
| Where you study | Gemini student plan, then per month |
|---|---|
| United States | AI Pro free for 12 months, then $19.99[4] |
| United Kingdom | AI Plus, then £4.49[5] |
| Canada | no student offer (ended Dec 9, 2025); regular AI Plus CA$6.99[10][11] |
| Australia | AI Plus, then A$7.99[6][11] |
| India | AI Plus, then ₹399[7] |
| Philippines | AI Plus, then ₱285[8] |
| Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, Netherlands | AI Plus, then €4.99[9] |
| Poland | AI Plus, then 23.99 zł[9] |
| Germany | AI Plus free for 1 year, but the page is inconsistent: the fine print names AI Pro at €21.99 after your student status ends or after four years at most. Check the price at checkout[9] |
Microsoft sells Microsoft 365 Personal, which includes Copilot, at half price to students:
| Where you study | Microsoft 365 Personal for students |
|---|---|
| United States | 50% off, shown as $4.99/month (regular $9.99)[19][20] |
| UK, Canada, Australia, India, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Poland, France, Spain | 50% off on each country page; the price loads only after sign-in or by script, and we did not see it[21] |
| Philippines | we found no student page (404)[21] |
Perplexity, GitHub, Mistral and Consensus name no country limit on the pages we read[14][24][25][26]. Claude has no individual student price anywhere we looked[17][18].
How many months will you pay before your deadline?
Free months run out, and discounts are paid every month. Pick the country of your school, your deadline and the length of your paper. The calculator shows how many months you would pay for each subscription before you submit, and the amount in each provider’s own currency:
Free months you can still use before your deadline: Gemini , ChatGPT Plus .
The bars count months, so we never have to convert currencies. StudyTexter shows zero subscription months because it is a single payment for one paper.
If you claim on Oct 12, 2026: when each offer charges
The free months from Google and OpenAI need a card at sign-up and renew on their own. These are the dates if you claim on Oct 12, 2026:
- Oct 12, 2026you claimDiscounts from Perplexity, Mistral and Microsoft charge the student price from the first month[14][25][19]. ChatGPT’s four free billing periods and Gemini’s 12 months start on this day[1][12].
- Oct 31, 2026ChatGPT deadlineLast day to claim OpenAI’s current student offer[1].
- Dec 31, 2026Gemini deadlineLast day to redeem Google’s student offer[12].
- about Feb 12, 2027ChatGPT renewsAfter four free billing periods, Plus renews at $20 a month unless you cancel[1].
- Oct 12, 2027Gemini renews, Codex credits expireGoogle charges your country’s price unless you cancel (or local law requires your consent first); unused Codex credits expire 12 months after the grant[12][3].
- every yearre-verifyGoogle says eligibility must be verified each year; Microsoft asks you to re-verify once a year to keep the student price[7][19].
The 9 tools at a glance
StudyTexter comes first for the paper itself; the others are ranked by how much you get and in how many countries:
| Tool | Student offer, then |
|---|---|
| StudyTexter | no student price needed: steps 1 to 5 free, then $79 to $179 once, by page count |
| Gemini[12] | 12 months of a paid plan free (redeem by Dec 31, 2026), then the price in your country; not in Canada |
| ChatGPT[1] | 4 months of Plus free for U.S. schools (claim by Oct 31, 2026), then $20/month |
| Perplexity[14] | Education Pro at $10/month (Perplexity: 50% off), monthly |
| Microsoft 365[19] | 50% off Personal with Copilot while you re-verify each year |
| GitHub Copilot[22] | Copilot Student free while verified |
| Mistral[25] | Pro at $5.99/month plus tax for up to 12 months, new users only; then $14.99 |
| Consensus[26] | up to 40% off with a school email |
| Claude[17][18] | no individual student discount; university-wide Education plan only |
A free offer (Gemini, ChatGPT in the US) costs nothing for a while and then renews at the full price; GitHub Copilot Student stays free while you are verified. With a discount (Perplexity, Microsoft 365, Mistral, Consensus) you pay the student price every month.

AI student discounts: FAQ
Is ChatGPT free for students?
ChatGPT has a free plan for everyone. Students at eligible U.S. schools also get four free months of ChatGPT Plus if they verify through SheerID and claim by October 31, 2026; after that, Plus costs $20 a month.
Can students outside the US get ChatGPT Plus for free?
Not with OpenAI’s current offer: what counts is a U.S. school. Students in the US and Canada can claim $100 in Codex credits, and Google offers a free Gemini year in over 140 markets (not in Canada).
Is ChatGPT Edu free for students?
Only if your university pays for it. ChatGPT Edu is sold to universities with no public price; ask your IT department or library.
Does Claude have a student discount?
Not for individual students. Anthropic sells a university-wide Education plan to institutions; without it, Claude Pro costs $20 a month or $17 a month billed yearly.
Is Perplexity Pro free for students?
Not on the pages we read. Education Pro costs $10 a month after a SheerID check, and you get everything in Pro, including Learn Mode and 10x as many citations in answers.
Which AI student offer is best for writing a thesis?
Chat assistants help you learn and get feedback, and Gemini’s free year is available in far more countries than ChatGPT’s offer. For the thesis itself you need checked sources and a page number for each citation: StudyTexter is built for that, with steps 1 to 5 free and then a one-time payment from $79.
What happens when the free months end?
The plan renews at the regular price unless you cancel first. With ChatGPT, canceling early ends the remaining free months; with Gemini, Google says your membership may stay active until the offer period ends.
Method and disclosure
We read websites, terms and reviews ourselves, back every number with a source and access date, and only add test results once we have them. Found a mistake? We correct it with a date.
On Oct 12, 2026 we read the student offer pages, help articles and pricing pages of OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, Anthropic, Microsoft, GitHub, Mistral and Consensus, in the country versions listed in the sources. Screenshots of public pages were taken from 08:29 to 08:55 UTC without signing in; originals are on file with checksums. We created no accounts and tested no tool, so this page compares offers only.
Prices are as shown, in local currency, not converted; where a page hid the price, we say so.
StudyTexter sells a guided thesis draft and is ranked first for that task, so we have an interest in this topic. Every statement about another provider has a source and date. All names are trademarks of their owners. If you find a mistake, we will correct and date the change.
Changes: Oct 12, 2026 first version; the same day, corrected after an independent fact check (Perplexity features, Mistral 12-month limit, Claude researchers program, Germany, Canada, country tables, shorter page).
